China Pledges to Stop Building New Coal Energy Plants Abroad

China has just made a move that could be pivotal in tackling global emissions, which is that they will not build new coal-fire projects abroad.

Under the belt and road initiative, China had been funding coal projects in many countries. And Xi Jinping said in a video recording shown at the annual summit "China will step up support for other developing countries in developing green and low-carbon energy, and will not build new coal-fired power projects abroad,".

China has funded trains, roads, ports and coal minds in numerous countries under the Belt Road Initiative.
